One of the unique things about the Bixby preschool program are all of the special classes that are offered, such as swimming, music, gym, Spanish and the all school assembly. Our students are able to experience these classes within their daily schedule, with teachers who are experts in their field. One thing we practice from the very start of the year is how to create fun and calming transitions into and out of these classes. One popular technique we use to gather the students is to pass out “tickets” which have different pictures on them. We then will tell stories or sing songs as the children line up. This is a great way to make “waiting” engaging and exciting! In addition to these techniques, we also have a daily schedule posted at eye level for the children that uses words and visuals to show what the day has in store for them.
