As a Spanish teacher my goal is to use TPRS as my primary strategy for teaching the language. TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling) is an input-based approach to teaching language that focuses on the systematic instruction of vocabulary in a highly comprehensible, personalized and contextualized manner. Basically, it is telling silly stories that the students can relate to and also to let them have say in how the story goes. Once they get more advanced and comfortable, they can retell the stories, change them, draw them – and many more things! It is a relatively new way of teaching and is extremely effective and fun! I believe that it is the future of language learning in the classroom!
